Independence Hall Tower will be wearing its Finest in a few short weeks.
The Friends of Independence National Historical Park are proud to announce that we have raised the funds needed to create and install a Decorative Scrim around Independence Hall Tower during its 14 months of restoration. Due to water infiltration in the Tower, much of the wood cladding that encompasses the tower is deteriorating and the iron rods placed between the wooden boards are rusting.
The restoration project will fix this and many other problems within the Tower. While this occurs, scaffolding will cover the entire building on all four sides. The Friends of Independence believe that the use of a Decorative Scrim will help to preserve the image of Independence Hall during this time period and will not ruin visitor’s experiences here at Independence National Historical Park.
On June 16, 2010 the Friends of Independence’s Governing Board and Independence Hall Committee presented a check to Independence National Historical Park for the creation and installation of the Decorative Scrim. The final cost was $38,600 and this is to due to unexpected benefits of the current economy. We are currently working with the park to see what other ways we can help support this project with our additional funds.
